Out of the Ashes

San Francisco announced to the world that it had risen like a Phoenix from the ashes when it hosted the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. More than 18 million people visited the fair. San Francisco rebuilt itself after the devastation and in 1915 it showed its gleaming self to the world in the Panama Pacific International Exposition. More than 18 million people came to walk through the verdant gardens, marvel at the electric lights, and gawk at all the new technological innovations. Hellman was one of the early donors to the Exposition and his son, Marco, served as one of the vice-presidents.
